Why I Stopped Casting Marketing Pearls Before Swine

So there's a bible story where Jesus tells his followers:

"Neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet"

Weird verse, right?

I thought the same.

Until I experienced it firsthand.

The other day, during a meeting with my real estate business partner, he made a strange remark which kept me awake most of the night.

He said:

"Michael, you're super knowledgeable in marketing. Why do you waste your time helping strangers?"

Holy moly.

He was right.

Why was I giving away my deepest, darkest, and cunning marketing secrets to anyone who asked...

...knowing darn well they wouldn't implement it anyway???

I decided to do some self-reflection, and what I discovered is, to say the least, kinda sad.

When I was a little boy...

I had no skills.

I had no passions.

I wasn't good at anything.

All I did was play Battlefield 3 on the Xbox 360 (which I sucked at, too)

To make things worse...

My levels of social anxiety were so high I was afraid to step into my back garden.

Nobody ever asked me for help or advice.

The times I did help?

I would screw it up by breaking something.

(Put on top getting bullied throughout your entire youth, and voila, that's me)

Now, please, don't feel sorry for me.

I'm glad it happened.

And years later, as I've become known in certain communities as "Holland's most controversial, English copywriter,"... people repeatedly ask me for advice, which, due to my childhood "PTSD", I tend to freely share without hesitation...

Only for them
To Throw It Aside
Like it's Trash!

(Ironically, they return a couple of weeks later, with the same problem, this time implementing my advice... solving it almost in an instant.)

Anyway...

It's one of the reasons joining my newsletter requires a measly investment of just $1.00.

Not only does it filter out the cheapskates, who only flush the toilet once a week to "save the whales," It forces my customers to implement the tips, techniques and strategies I'm sharing.

So it's doing my followers a favor.

The bottom line is this:

People who pay with their wallets pay attention.

Which proves, as always, Jesus is right.

Remember it next time you give away free stuff.

Your friend,

Michael
